Having looked around I came to discover the course I wanted and the facilities were more than suitable to my needs. With a family and part-time work commitments, the Bega Education Centre couldn’t have been more compatible.
What are the advantages of attending University close to home?
Local and highly experienced tutors and the capacity to apply my learning to issues directly facing our community.
Why did you choose your particular degree?
The BA degree in Community, Culture & Environment offered a unique cross-section of subjects that appealed not only to my specific interests, but also offered a broad spectrum of concepts, theories and disciplines that are compatible with a variety of post-graduate options.
Describe what you enjoy most about being a student here:
We have a unique sense of community here at the Bega Education Centre. Tutorial discussions often spill out into the common-room. No issue is too big or too small. Here the world comes to us. I couldn't imagine experiencing this sense of community and receiving this amount of support at a major campus. This is how university should be.
What are some of your career-related ambitions?
The Community, Culture & Environment major has primed me well for the Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary). It now feels inevitable that a career in teaching awaits me in the not-too-distant future.
What prompted your return to tertiary education?
I just had to do this. Yet not until now, with the Bega Education Centre being made available, did I feel it was possible to take on this challenge. I thought I had it in me, but now I know.
